I hope that as we start 2012 everyone is happy healthy and in joyful spirits. 2011 saw a lot of changes for many of us, both good and bad, but 2012 brings new hope for us all. I have used the holiday season as a platform to put wrong behind me and move forward. As I know more then most, life is way to short to hold to many grudges.

In November I was blessed to have worked with Terry and Judy Wright on a fun photoshoot. I can't wait for them to come back to Vegas an work with us again at the American Dream Pageant 2012. They chose to move to Seattle and begin a new life with new adventures. I wish them all the best. I do have a favor to ask of all who are ready this. I am up for a promotion at work. Yes that would mean full time but it would come with a raise and better days. With the fact that Turk is unable to work due to his back, I have taken on the roll as "Bread Winner" of the family. So please send all your prayer and positive energies towards me to receive this position.
Also, I have submitted the photo attached w/o the crown and sash to a contest to be placed in a calander. Luck would be apprecited if you could send some my way.

Welcome to all new readers. I hope I do you proud with quick updates and lots to talk about.

Well, I am a week into the new title of Lady American Dream and I still expect to get a call saying there has been a misstake and Deborah is the true winner. I have been busy with work at the mortuary. Trying to catch up after a week and half off. I have also been working on getting my appearance schedule organized. I think my first public appearance is going to be the 911 Unity Program here in Vegas. Check out what's in store at www.911unity.org. We are proud of our counrty here in Vegas. Also coming up is the annual American Heart Association Walk in October, but a trip Florida and Colorado are in the mix too.

Promise I will take my crown and LOTS of photos.

Now onto what I started earlier. A tranformation of clothing.

Yep. It's a wedding dress. I found it at a local thrift store. I loved the way it fit, YEAH no torsal altering, and the applicays that are on the dress were stunning. When I was at the purchase counter, everyone asked when I was getting married. When I told them what I was planning they all thought I was crazy.

So one of my first steps was to dye the dress.

After removing the tulle and outer covering of chiffon over the skirt, removing half the train and creating a slit in the dront I ended with this beautiful purple dress (Yep the dye said blue.
I wore the dress at the Teen American Dream National Pageant and so many people complimented me on it and were amazed when I told them it started life as a wedding dress.
I love the transfermation. I can't wait until my next project.

Wow, an excited couple of months!
First. Great news about Ms. Tracy Rodgers. She has survived her surgeries and has actuall taken a few small steps! She still has a long road ahead of her in her recovery but Praises be to Him that she is alive and able to walk. She has become one of my all time heros.
Next. I had the opportunity to help out with the Teen, Teenager, and Miss American Dream 2011 Pageant and three remarkable young aldies won, Janelle from AZ, Katye from Penn and Dina from Georgia. They are beautiful inside and out.
AND THEN!!!!!!!!!!
I was fortunate enough to go on and win the title of Lady American Dream 2011 at Thursday August 18's pageant. I am so excited to continue on my dream of inspiring women to reach and capture their dreams and goals.
I will post photos as I get them.

The Story is about a fellow pageant young lady who was involved in a vehicle accident yesterday. She is alive but with so many injuries, her recovery will be long and painful.

I have been working all morning on a fundraiser on Tracys behave. I only hope I can get it together.

This morning started as a great sunshiney morning......

...and I opened the front door to find a plate of cookies waiting for the family. Thank you to Beth and Kat for a wonderful surprise.
Then it was off to church to be in nursery. I love the babies at my church. They are all so happy and healthy that you just know that they are in loving and happy families.
Then I came home and finished cleaning the house, got the drinks and fruit and cheese tray ready for the kids to come over for BBQing.
Great time with Travis, Jaymie, Trisa, Kyle and the grandkids Jacob and Andrew. What a great family!
Then the call came in....

Trisa was in an accident on her way home. We got lucky in that no one was hurt. Also, Trisa did not receive the ticket. The other driver was found at fault for not yeilding to traffic when entering from a private drive.
I am so ready for bed! For it is off to work tomorrow.

My first remake..

My first remake... that I documented anyways.
I just love the pattern of this MuMu but it was a bit large and to long soooo first to go was the ruffle along the bottom.

Now with the lentgh being a lot better, I have ideas for the ruffle, next came tackling the sleeves. One down..

Now with both sleeves removed I headed to the sewing machine to put in a new hem and sew up the raw edges of the sleeves

Paired with my white woven blet and white sandles I am ready to head to the market in my "new" MuMu.

Wow. I really need to keep up with this blogging thing. I met a young woman a few weeks ago who does three and I can't seem to do one. :(
I have been staying busy as Lady Nevada American Dream. Between attending bike safety assembly and rodeos in Las Vegas to driving to Utah to help judge Utah US Continental pageants I seem to run out of energy.
I am still working at Palm Mortuary as well, where we are slowly going through the changes to make us compliant with SCI. At least I don't have to do any training for I am only part time.
I have also been mentored by Marissa, a blogger who changes clothing that is out dated, to big or just not so pretty into up to date totally wearable pieces. So keep an eye out for my recreations.
I just found out that this summer I will be having some free time. Florida has canceled their state US Continental pageant and Nationals too has been canceled. HMM what to do with my time. hahaha. Turk is already making plans. Though I do believe that I should stay home and concentrate on my nationals in August.
I have been blessed to be accepted as a reporter for Pageant Lounge TV. A web base talk show that airs anything pageant related; clothing, makeup, tips and interviews with current title holders. I did my first interviews while at the Utah US Continental pageant, where I was also blessed to be a judge. What fun. Keep an eye on Pageantloungetv.com for my interviews to air soon.

Well, it has been an exciting 3 months since becoming a has been and lots has happened. Let's see if I can remember the order.
1) My mother has retired and is in the process of moving to Arizona. I will miss having her around the corner, but as an adult she needs to live her life.
2) My step mothers' boyfriend has had a serious injury and is now on life support. Cheryl is needing to make decisions with his family about his care.
3) Turk, Brandon and I hae made 3 trips to Colorado Springs to spend time with his sister Tomme and niece Tammy. They have all become so close. I love family.
4) I have received another title.
Lady Nevada American Dream 2011.
www.americandreampageants.com Turk wasnt to thrilled when I told him about the title but as always, he is being supportive of my dreams. Nationals will be held in Las Vegas, NV in August 2011. Come one come all to cheer me on.
5) I have been staying in touch with Loreen from US Continental and will be working with her on this years program. She is supportive of my new title.

6) I have had surgery to help with my breathing. Ever since my ex sister in law's attack on me in 2004 I have had breathing problems. Finally I had enough saved money to have it fixed. I love being able to breath!!!!!!!

Well this about sums up what has been happening in the last three months. Let's see where the next three months take me.

Life After the Crown.

Congrates to my successor Laura Bauman from Ill. I know that Laura will do a great job as your new Ms. US Continental. Though I will admit it is a diffucult sitituation for me to be in....having to hand over the responsiblities of the title. I am so sad to be a "has been", though as a great friend and mentor told me, "It is better to be a has been then to have never been". Thank you John.
Since crowning Laura on July 17th, I have been doing a bit more family time with Turk and Brandon. We have done a lot of laughing and hanging out together. I guess there is an upside to not making appearances.
I have been looking into doing another pageant, even though I told Turk I would take a year off, so wish me luck when I find one to do and then have to tell him. LOL.
Thank you to everyone who has help me make the last year a wonderful experience.

I am down to two weeks. YUCK!!!! Though I have donwe a few appearances. Thank you to Keara, Mrs. Utha for allowing me to emcee her dinner for Couper's Quilts, her charity to raise quilts to be donated to Utah pedatic wards. I am gearing up for the Boulder City Damborree Parade on July 3rd. And MY BIRTHDAY!!!! My neice Becky has traveled from Carlsbad New Mexico to celebrate with me. She also turns 40 but on the 5th of July where as I turn 40 on the 7th. Pictures to follow.

Almost there

I can't believe that in 3 weeks I will be crowning another young lady into the title of Ms. US Continental and my reign will be over. It does seem only like last week taht I was standing on stage at the Rose Wagner Theater and I heard my name called. What a joyful sound!!!
What a joyful year that I have been blessed with. Thank you to all who have been there for me. Turk, Brandon, Monica, ShaDelle, and Loreen. Without all of your support I would have lost my mind long ago. To everyone who I have met through my year, Michelle, Brittney, Crisa, Caitlin and so many others, thank you for your guidance, love and support.
I hope to conitnue with my blogging-though more often would be nice for everyone HAHA- even after my reign is over for I wish to follow the lead of my Royal Pal Michelle and continue my volunteer work and work with the American Heart Association.

Catching up

On Oct 10 I took part in the Las Vegas Heart Walk. Well I helped out in the Go Red for Women booth. I was blessed to have Turk there with me, just a month out of surgery. What a trooper. I was also greatful to have the hellp of Christine Stoddard, Mrs. Texas US Continental 2010 who came into town to help out. While there Christine and I met other royality as well as survivors of both heart disease and stokes. Thank you to Crisa for allowing us to share in such an experience!

The following weekend I was a volunteer at the Justin Timberlake Shriner Hospital for Children Golf Open. I wasn't able to get to close to Justin but was able to meet and photograph with actor/comdian Geoge Lopez. What a nice guy. It was a long weekend but being on the 18th green where the tournament was literally won and lost made it all worth while.

On Oct 22nd I was lucky to help out with one of my favorite organizations, Think First NV. Think First is a nation wide non-profit organization that promotes using your mind to protect your body. One of the events that Debbie Kurn does is sponors helmet give aways and that is what we were doing this day at our sponor Land Rover Las Vegas.

Nevada became a state on Oct 31 so every year in our capital city Carson City there is a parade and Turk, Brandon and I traveled this year to participate. This year we celebrated Abraham Lincoln's presidency. It was a bit chilly so I was thankful for the faux fur coat that I received as a gift for winning the title. After the parade we were walking around a bit and it was so cool to meet persons in period clothing.

Loreen and I were blessed to have the opportunity to visit Chicago in December. We took the risk and sat in the 3' x 4' box 103 stories above the ground at the top of the Willis Tower (aka The Sears Tower). We only heard a few cracks. Haha. Our visit to Chicago was to attend the premiere of Tiara Magazine. I was interviewed for their spring issue. Get your subscriptions now at www.tiaramagazine.com. The rest of December went by with extra hours at work and spending quality time with Turk and Brandon. We then got lucky and were able to have Christmas dinner with Turks children and grandboys. I found it quite easy to cook gluten free, and no one noticed. Tricia, Turk's middle child, was diagnosed with Celiac disease so she isn't able to eat food made with wheat, rye or gluten.

Well that catches us up through the first of the year. I promise to up date for what has happened thus far in 2010 in my next post. AND I promise it will be with in the next couple of days.

I am truely sorry for not updating everything sooner, it is just a lot has been happening in the Kornehayes household that has not allowed me to sit and put into words all that is happening. A quick over view is:
Appearances as Ms US Continental,Through Oct and planning for up coming ones,
Turk finally had to have back surgery,
Trying to tame Brandon's energy,
Helping my mother in a few of her endevors,
My sister in law Cathi had a stroke,
Catching up with my bible studies,

Now that November is here and life has slowed a bit I will be able to sit and put writing with pictures for you to enjoy.

The events in October

WOW! What a long month October has been. AND it is not over yet.
First of all, my sister in law Cathi was able to come home within a few days after having her stroke. It was a minor one, so minor that the Doctor did not schedule theropy. It was minor BUT a huge wake up call for her so she and my brother are making the adjustments in their lives as to prevent another. My Granddad was also able to come home and is doing fine. He still has to be monitored but is in great health for being 82 years old. I did find out that my step mothers mother, whom we call GeeGee also had a minor stroke two weeks ago. It has turned into a good thing that I chose American Heart Association/Stroke Awareness as my platform!!!!
Now onto the fun stuff.

On October 10th I was blessed to have Christina Storrade, Mrs Texas US Continental 2010 to help me out working the Go Red for Women booth during the Las Vegas Heart Walk. We had a great time visiting with stroke and heart disease survivors and hanging out with Lacy and Crisa from AHA.

The week of the 11th through the 18th I volunteered to work at the Justin Timberlake Shriner Hospital for Children Open, a golf tournament that raised money for the hospitals of the Shriners. I was lucky enough to be given the job of Marshall. I was one of the person you see raising their hands to quiet the gallery when a glofer is getting ready to make their swing or putt. I was on the 18th green, where this year it was literly won in a shoot out. I was able to meet George Lopez, comdeian and actor and Natalie Gulbis.

A long month

Well we survived Turks surgery. He is on the mend. Though the doctor says it will take a full two years for "complete" recovery.

On Sept 12 I went to the Pink Ribbon tour, honor all those who have died, survived and supported Breast cancer.

On Sept 23 I attended a luncheon for AHA to honor medical personal in the Las Vegas area for their commimtent to the research to the cause.

On Sept 24 I traveled to Florida to visit my sister queen Mrs. US Continental Monica Speer and help her with the American Heart Walk. To bad she was sick with fever and cough the whole weekend. Monica was able to be there on Friday for set up but on Sat she was unable to attend the event physically but she was with us in spirit.

I am waiting now for news from my brother Ben. His wife Cathi had a stroke yesterday and is in the hospital. They live in Arkansas so I can't even go visit her easily. she is in my thoughts and prayers though. Also I found out that my maternal Granddad went in for a routine surgery and developed pnemonia. I am waiting to hear from my Aunt and Uncle who live near him about his condidtion.
All the while I am trying to prepare for October. The week of the 11-18 I will be volunteering at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital Open, a golf tournament held to raise money for the Hospital. Then the end of the month I plan to travel to our capital city, Carson City for our Nevada Day celebration and parade. Nevada Day is Oct 31, the date that Nevada was registrated into the Union.

Airport wait

Okay you know you are at Las Vegas Maccarren Airport when at 5:30 in the morning the Quiznos Sub shop is not only open BUT has a line of more the 2 dozen people! I made it through sercurity with a small blip. I wore a shirt that has a un-attachable necklace and Jeans that have to many snaps. Yep. I got patted down. To think they let a tiara go through with out checking it yet my jeans cause the sensors to go off. Now if the weather holds up, I should make it to Atlanta for a layover then onto West Palm Beach for the Heart walk.

I am getting so excited. Thursday the 24th I begin my journey to Florida to hang with Monica (Mrs. US Continental) and help her with the Heart Walk for American Heart Assoiction. I can not wait to see her again. July was to long ago. Stay posted for pictures when I return.

I was so lucky to be able to hang with Kevin Burke, star of Defending the Caveman and star of Kevin Burke, Fitz of Laughter. I could not stop crying from laughter during both shows. Thank you Kevin.
I then was able to go to The Pink Ribbon Tour. What a wonderful time and experience. I was able to sign the pink firetruck in honor of my Aunt Liz, a 5 year Breast cancer survivor. I also got to meet little Ally. She came to the event to support her grandmother who is a survivor. Ally kept telling her mommy, "There's a princess, there's a princess!" She was talking about me so of course I had to get a picture with such a doll. When ever the Pink Ribbon tour comes to your home town I say get there. So many local business came out to support and isn't that what it is all about? Support your community and help find a cure.

Surgery

Well, we are coming up on Turks surgery. For those who don't know, my fiancee broke his back on June 3, 2009 and he is gong into surgery on August 29. He is a strong man so we know that with the continued prayers and the skilled hands of the surgeon he will be back on his feet being a pain in the tookus in no time. Please keep him your prayers.

Spring Valley resident crowned Ms. U.S. Continental

Special to ViewTina Hayes is crowned Ms. U.S. Continental during the 2009 U.S. Continental Pageant on July 11 in Salt Lake City. Hayes, who has competed in pageants since she was 18, says she plans to promote volunteerism and the U.S. Continental Pageant during her reign.

There are few hobbies that can be enjoyed for most of a lifetime ... reading, cooking, chess, golf.

Beauty pageants are not one of them -- not typically anyway.

But that's one activity Tina Hayes has always enjoyed. She stepped onto her first stage at 18 years old for the Miss Teen Fort Michilimackinac pageant in Michigan. She took second-runner up at the county level and vowed she wouldn't quit pageants until she had a crown.

Twenty-one years later, she got her crown.

Last month, Hayes was named Ms. U.S. Continental, a national level pageant based in Salt Lake City that is one of the few that welcomes women of all ages and marital status.

"This has always been a dream of mine," Hayes said while in her Spring Valley home. "Once you get the pageant bug, you just want to keep doing it."

In August 2006, Hayes' husband of four years died from a cycling accident that left him in a coma for two years. Eleven days earlier, her father died.

Hayes told pageant judges in an interview that her greatest accomplishment was living through the deaths of her husband and father without turning to drugs or alcohol.

"I learned it's OK to take care of me so that I can take care of my family," said Hayes, who has a 6-year-old son, Brandon. "If you go through something, a tragedy or not, it's OK to still reach for your goals."

She added that the goal she reached for and feels that she has achieved is to be happy with who she is. The U.S. Continental Pageant is one of many aspects that helped her fulfill that.

Hayes also has competed in the state levels of Miss USA and Miss America Pageants, but she could not find a competition for widowed women until she discovered the U.S. Continental Pageant.

"The U.S. Continental Pageant looks at the whole person," she said. "I felt so comfortable going up there and being who I am."

Hayes is engaged to Patrick "Turk" Kornegay, who has three children and two grandchildren.

"I cried when she won because of everything she's been through," Cornegay said. "If she wasn't a strong woman, she wouldn't be where she is today. She deserves this."

Loreen Olney, executive director of the U.S. Continental Pageant, credits Hayes' win to her genuine warmth and love.

"It is that warmth that creates a glow about her and makes her stand out in a crowd," she said.

Hayes duty throughout her reining year is to promote volunteerism and the U.S. Continental Pageant. Even before the pageant, she volunteered at nonprofit agencies and charity events between her workdays as an administrative support staff at Palm Mortuary. She works most closely with ThinkFirst-Nevada and the American Heart Association.

"Even when the title is gone, I cannot stop," she said. "Why can't each of us take one hour a day to give back?"

I was given the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the Las Vegas 51's home game on Aug 1st against the Salt Lake City Bee's. What a great experience and I got a round of applause for getting the ball across home plate in the air while throwing from the pitching mound. 65 feet folks! Thank yous go out to Chuck Johnson, special events coordinator, and Don Logan, general manager, for the opportunity. The pictures show me getting ready to head out to the mound, with Bubbie Buzachero, our closing pitcher in our win against the Bees, who was my catcher for the throw and with Cosmo, our alien mascot.
If ever given the chance to throw out a first pitch I would suggest to everyone "JUMP ON IT!" It is such a fun experience.

Newpaper interview

I am so excited to say that I survived my first official newspaper interview. It was with the Spring Valley View, a division of the Las Vegas Review Journal. Danielle Nadler was an awesome person to speak with and made everything very easy. She found my story interesting from the stand point that like my deceased husband she is a cyclist and she wondered where I had found the strength and fortitude to pursue my dream of competing in a national beauty pageant. I just explained to her that when a woman (or man) is faced with tragedy there are two roads they can take. They can take the one that leads to self destruction or the other that leads to happiness and healing. I chose the later.
I will figure out how to post the article when it runs on August 11, 2009.
Now I am having to go practice throwing a baseball 65 feet, the distance from the pitching mound and home plate, because on Aug 1st I am throwing out the first pitch at the Las Vegas 51's baseball game against the Salt Lake City Bees. Wish me luck.

Had a wonderful time at the Mrs. United States Pageant at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Congratulations to Mrs. South Carolina Tammy Johns-Brown. It was a beautiful setting with some beautiful women representing all 50 states, Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, Guam, and Virgins Islands.
